Montgomery Sailboats Owners Group

Lake Pend Oreille (Idaho) Trip

Over the weekend of July 18-20 2003, the North West Potters had a get-together on Lake Pend Oreille in N. Idaho. The N. W. Potters are a very active group and have consistently invited Montgomery sailors to join in on the fun! Of the 12 or so boats in attendance, four were M-15's.
Lake Pend Oreille is a huge, very deep, clearwater lake located between Sand Point Idaho and Coeur d'Alene Idaho. The trip launched on Friday night from Farragut State Park (which has excellent ramp and parking facilities). Friday night the group meet at the Button Hook docks at the very south end of the lake, approx. 1.5 miles from the Farragut launch. Button Hook has easy access to showers and offers great anchorage as well as plenty of dock space.
Saturday night the group intended to be at Whisky Rock docks (an approx. 6 mile sail from Button Hook), but due to high winds/no wind, communication and mechanical challenges, hot weather, and a generous supply of power boaters, the group was nearly split between Whiskey Rock and Button Hook. However, after a bit of motor sailing and searching everyone was regrouped at the "Hook" for a bit of desert potluck, and a gift distribution, sponsored by West Marine of Spokane, and arranged for by Bree and Doug Reynolds (P-19 "Peeper"). Sunday sailing was little more wind, faster, and cooler, with some staying on and some of us having to return to the work world for another week.
